Field Trips to Urban Farms

Directions

September 14 – Lachine New Farm Space

The farm is located on the former Sœurs de Sainte-Anne field, which is being converted into an urban farm. The field is on Esther-Blondin, between Provost and Duff-Court, across from Dalbé-Viau High School.

Please note that the Google Maps link above brings you to a building beside the field rather than directly to the farm. The farm is in the large field next to the building.

September 16 & 18 – Loyola Farms

We will meet at 3:00 p.m. at the Loyola Farmhouse, located at 7079 Terrebonne Avenue. From there, we will visit some of the other farm and garden spaces around the Loyola campus.

September 23 – Senneville Farm

We will meet at 3:00 p.m. at the Senneville Farm, located at 265 Senneville Road.

If you are travelling by public transit, you can take the REM to Anse-à-l’Orme or the train to Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue and then take the collective taxi to the farm.

September 25 – Duff-Court Urban Farm & Lachine New Farm Space

We will meet at 3:00 p.m. at the Duff-Court (COVIQ) Urban Farm. The farm is located at the back of the parking lot off Duff-Court and Crois Roy.

The farm can be a little tricky to find because Duff-Court is a winding road that splits. Follow the Google Maps link above and look for the farm at the back of the parking lot. From there, we will also visit the new Lachine farm space.

Expectations

Over the next two weeks, we will visit a few urban and peri-urban farm sites to learn about different approaches to urban agriculture in practice. The dates and locations listed above are linked to Google Maps so you can easily find each site.

You are expected to attend at least two field trips to receive participation credit for these classes. Ideally, you should attend one of the two Loyola visits (September 16 or 18) and choose at least one of the other field trips. If neither Loyola date works for you, you can attend two of the other field trips instead.

The Lachine visit on September 14 is flexible: you can drop by anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to see goats being used to manage weeds and vegetation around the collective farm and garden beds.
