October 6 – Alternative Lesson (Attendance is NOT Mandatory)

Hello everyone. I sent you the following message via Moodle yesterday.

I hope you are having a great week. I discussed the plan for October 6th already in class but felt I should reiterate some points for clarity.

As most of you are already aware, the Geography Undergraduate Student Society (GUSS) voted to go on strike from October 3rd to October 7th. To my awareness, Economics students are not on strike. Although I am required to teach on October 6th (according to my contract), I will provide the following provisions.

1 – On October 6th, class attendance is NOT mandatory. You DO NOT have to come to class but you are still welcome to come if you want. I will NOT take attendance and understand if you want to take the time to catch up on your work.

2 – For those who show up, I will take the time to discuss the blog posts, answer any questions about the assignments and provide an alternative lesson.

3 – We will discuss the readings for October 6th in class on October 13th. Please read at least one of these chapters for October 13th:

Martinez-Alier. Muradian, R. (2015) Handbook of Ecological Economics, Edward Edgar Publishing Limited.

Chapter 1 – Taking Stock: The Keystones of Ecological Economics (1 – 25)

Chapter 2 – The Content, Direction and Philosophy of Ecological Economics (26 – 47)

Chapter 3 – Analytical Philosophy and Ecological Economics (48 – 73)

Chapter 4 – Value Deliberation in Ecological Economics (74 – 99)

4 – The first blog post deadline has been extended to Monday, October 17th. Please drop off a HARD COPY of the first blog in my mailbox (in the Geography department) before 5:30 PM. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL A SOFT COPY.

5 – If you have any questions or concerns, please email me.
