Students will choose a research topic related to sustainable foodscapes and develop a research question for an individual proposed study. They will review relevant research, scholarship, and other credible sources of knowledge to establish the context for their research, synthesize existing knowledge, identify an area for further investigation, and explain how the literature informs their research question.

Students are encouraged to consider different sources and forms of knowledge relevant to their topic. These may include academic research, Indigenous knowledge and publications, community-based research, government and organizational reports, and other appropriate sources. Students should critically consider the relevance, credibility, context, and limitations of the sources they use. This assignment will form the foundation of the final research proposal.
